The Role:
We are seeking a Senior Technical Designer to join our Tech Design Department. The position is based in our NYC Corporate office and reports to our Senior Director of Technical Design.
Responsibilities:
Product:
- Spec garments for fitting
- Lead fittings for designated product categories (Jackets, Outerwear, Dickeys, Pants, Jumpsuits)
- Write fit comments for designated product categories made both overseas and domestically
- Interface with domestic patternmakers to convey fit and construction corrections
- Interface with domestic factories to convey fit and construction corrections
- Maintain consistent size and fit based on Veronica Beard standards.
- Prioritize workload based on fabric/garment delivery. Meet seasonal deadlines
- Collaborate daily with design, product development & production teams to ensure ideal product while maintaining margins
- Book fit model weekly
- Allocate PM workload seasonally
Mangerial:
- Manage direct reports
- Influence calendar & workflow for product categories, attend weekly calendar meetings
- Track & manage workflow, prioritize workload, and ensure deadlines are met for self & team
- Maintain monthly model budget
- Code & submit invoices relevant to designated product categories
- Own product workload as individual contributor as well as managerial duties
- Mentor, coach, and train team members in best practices
- Partner with Director on special products within designated product category
- Take on additional projects as needed
Requirements:
- 7-10 years of experience as a women’s technical designer (Tailoring experience preferred, Woven Bottoms experience preferred)
- Experience in leading fittings
- Strong knowledge of garment construction
- Strong knowledge of patternmaking, draping, grading
- Ability to communicate fit corrections to factories overseas and domestic
- Ability to communicate and interface with designers, merchandising, production, and freelance patternmakers
- Ability to successfully oversee a complex category while making product quality & seasonal deliverables a priority
- Proficiency in Photoshop & Illustrator
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong time management and multitasking skills
- Strong sense of urgency, organizational skills, technical & detail-oriented
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proactive, problem-solver, dedicated, deadline-driven and self-motivated
The base salary range for this role is between $100,000 and $130,000. The relevant base salary will vary depending on wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training, degrees, and certifications. The base salary is just one component of our total compensation offerings, which consist of a comprehensive benefits package as well as a short-term incentive program, clothing allowance, and merchandise discounts.
