Tabletop Tips

Aloha Marina's Marina Purcell

DEBUG: core/paragraph

Can't go to Hawaii? Then bring Hawaii to you—courtesy of Marina Purcell and her Aloha Marina collection, which puts the focus on bright and cheerful tropical prints on everything from dresses and easy tees to playing cards and face masks. For those of us far from the equator with dipping temps and earlier (and earlier) sunsets, we consider her quick hits of sunny color the perfect antidote to the winter doldrums. Plus, for the hostesses out there, she sells table linens too—a great way to upgrade your next gathering with some spirited wanderlust—and shared her personal entertaining tips below.

"I have always loved to entertain and now more than ever our meals are with close friends around a cozy table in our backyard. There is always room for a stray houseguest and I usually incorporate a fun place card, a colorful napkin or dahlias from my garden. As the nights get cool I always have a warm throw blanket or cape for my guests.

"Six months of dining together with my kids has led us to be more creative and break with the daily routine. We have delegated nights where they get to set & decorate the table and even cook the meal. It has become quite competitive and I have been very impressed with their eclectic approach to mixing patterns. Eating off a dinner tray with a fun napkin is also a great idea if kids want to eat separately or you need a change of location."

"No party is complete without delicious food, lots of laughs, a beautiful table and of course, tequila or a scorpion bowl. During the lockdown when I didn’t have access to flower shops, I often collected shells or coconuts for table and truly looked forward to an impromptu “docktail” or bbq. I hope my table linens will inspire you to step up your table game." — Marina Purcell
