Meet Tali and Ophira Edut, also known as the AstroTwins. These professional astrologers, authors, and identical twins have a unique, down-to-earth approach to horoscopes, as well as cosmically great style. We met up with the two of them in Soho to talk sisterhood, personal wardrobes, and how to prepare for Mercury in retrograde.
Name and Signs:
Tali & Ophira Edut, Sagittarius Sun + Scorpio Moon + Capricorn Rising
What led you to the world of astrology? How did you become the AstroTwins.
This career was totally “accidental!” We never thought it would be more than just an obsessive hobby. But as we look back, it’s really our calling, allowing us to meld all our passions into one cosmic cocktail. We now have over 4 million readers on our site every month. Ophi lives in NYC and Tali in Seattle—we have husbands and Ophi has two daughters—but we make sure we are in the same city every month so we can get our twin time in.
Working together is like…
Ophira: Highly convenient—we are so lucky to be able to pick up naturally where the other leaves off.
Best advice you’ve ever received about working with family?
Tali & Ophira: Let a third party be your guide! We work regularly with coaches who can mediate our sister-talk and make sure that we really listen and honor one another’s perspective. These advisers help us with everything from figuring out our branding to financial planning. They truly do help us align without either of us having to sacrifice our ideas.
If you weren’t astrologers, what would you be doing?
Tali: I’d probably study feng shui and be an interior designer. I love creating beautiful and sacred spaces that support people’s passions and goals.
Ophira: Graphic design and business consulting are my other passions—I still design some of our books and love talking to reading clients about their businesses.
What do you love most about what you do?
Tali & Ophira:Connecting to the amazing people who read our horoscopes. We are constantly inspired by the creative, world-changing thought leaders who send us messages and come to our events. It’s like we’re part of this beautiful cosmic community. It’s an honor.
What do you find to be the most challenging?
Tali: While writing is my passion, it can be a solitary path for this outgoing Sagittarius.
Ophira: Having to write the same things 12 times for each sign can be challenging on some days—especially when I feel like I’ve been writing forever but I’m only six signs in.
What’s the real deal with Mercury in retrograde? Why does it feel like everything falls apart?
Retrograde planets get a bad rap because we are such a future-oriented society. They ARE “forced slowdowns,” which can be frustrating in this progress-obsessed world. But we suggest rethinking them as hidden blessings. They give us a time out to stop and make sure that we are actually on the right track. If things fall apart during Mercury retrograde, it’s because they need to be rebuilt on a stronger foundation. That doesn’t mean they are over for good! It’s a chance to roll up your sleeves and really get in there. For best results, use Mercury retrograde for all “re” activities, like reviewing, reconsidering, refining and reconnecting.
The one celeb you’d love to do a chart reading for:
Tali & Ophira: Most definitely Oprah for both of us!
Who would play the two of you in a movie?
Tali & Ophira: We’re always told that we look like Toni Collette. A high compliment and we love her range! She’s born exactly a month before us, a November 2 Scorpio (we are December 2 but have tons of Scorpio in our natal chart). If they could do a Lindsay Lohan “Parent Trap” thing with her, well, hey…
Describe your personal style:
Tali & Ophira: We have a similar style, we just started calling it "Nomad Nouveau.” It’s a mix of beachy, flowy pieces we’d wear in our favorite vacation spots, like Tulum, Mexico and some New York City glamour. Maxi dresses and denim jackets; pretty but comfy shoes you can kick off easily after wandering around exploring for hours. Tali tends to be a little more bohemian and tousled while Ophi can get into a sophisticated spin on this. She breaks out the blow dryer daily!
One thing Tali taught me about style:
Be more playful with patterns and accessories. Everything doesn’t have to match perfectly.
One thing Ophira taught me about style:
That sometimes, it’s a good idea to comb your hair.
The pieces in your wardrobe you can’t live without:
Tali: Overalls and jumpsuits…I hope the trend never dies!
Ophira: Flowy dresses, ankle boots and a denim jacket.
