Gregg Renfrew, Founder & CEO of BeautycounterGregg Renfrew is a pioneer in the clean beauty movement—the founder and CEO of Beautycounter launched the company eight years ago, when there wasn't a ton of focus on safe, non-toxic skincare and cosmetics. But she believed in herself, and her mission, and trailblazed the path forward. "Women tend to second-guess themselves," she says Renfrew, who's a passionate advocate for cosmetic reform in D.C. "I trust my gut."
It's not the first time Renfew's gone with her instincts, either—she's a serial entrepreneur, who previously founded The Wedding List (which was later snapped up by none other than Martha Stewart). Here, we talk the wife, mother, and celebrated businesswoman on her work weapons, life hacks and letting go of the idea that women need to be good at everything.
My Hustle
You show up. Every. Single. Day.
What got me started...
In 2006, I watched the film An Inconvenient Truth and was simultaneously watching my loved ones deal with significant health issues. I started to connect the dots: What was detrimental to the earth was also detrimental to human health. It was a wake-up call for me. I started to make sweeping changes in my life, but when it came to personal care and beauty products, I could not find products that not only met my high standards but were also made with ingredients safer for my health. I felt people were being asked to compromise their health in the name of beauty, and I wanted to do something about it so, I created Beautycounter.
