Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer
Imagine getting a cancer diagnosis from your doctor and being told to get your affairs in order. For those facing pancreatic cancer, that can be a reality. All too often the disease is diagnosed at an advanced stage, when treatment options are limited.
That's what happened to Anne Glauber, above, in 2014—except she decided to do something about it. After receiving a stage IV diagnosis, the PR veteran found herself in a familiar place for many cancer patients: too many questions, too many unknowns.
In 2016 she launched Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer with her oncologist Dr. Allyson J. Ocean; entrepreneur Willa Shalit; Kerri Kaplan, President of the Lustgarten Foundation, the largest private funder of pancreatic cancer research in the U.S.; and Cindy Price Gavin, who has expertise in building medical nonprofit start-ups into mature organizations. What began as an online platform to inform, enable, and educate—on everything from cancer management to the latest treatments—has now become a thriving community changing the way patients and caregivers navigate the disease. While sadly Glauber passed away in 2017, she has left behind a legacy that ensures no person will face pancreatic cancer alone again.
This quarter, we are teaming up with Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer and, from now to the end of December, will donate proceeds from every VeronicaBeard.com order to the nonprofit. "You can survive—there's hope," says the Veronicas. "We witnessed firsthand the incredible work of Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer when our dear friend Rich got diagnosed and are so proud to partner with this inspiring organization."
Why This Matters
• Roughly 66,440 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year. The survival rate is a dismal 13 percent.
• Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer because it’s often diagnosed too late. It has few early warning signs and symptoms are similar to those of many other illnesses—like stomach pain or back pain—making it hard to recognize.
• Pancreatic cancer is one of the least-funded diseases in terms of research dollars. And, unlike other cancers, there is no simple screening method for pancreatic cancer.
How Your Donations Help
• Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer is a go-to resource that guides patients and caregivers with vital information for better outcomes. Through a dynamic online platform available in English and Spanish, patients can learn about the latest treatments from experts, find ways to manage their disease and improve their quality of life—empowering them to make informed decisions about their treatment options.
• For those facing this deadly cancer, Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer provides a wealth of readily accessible, easily understandable, and medically vetted resources to give pancreatic cancer patients and their caregivers a clear path for action. The breadth of information is astonishingly comprehensive, a one-stop resource for everyone from those at risk to the newly diagnosed to those navigating life with cancer. There are much needed messages of hope and encouragement through survivor videos and stories, too.
• Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer also gives those in cancer research a place to share information with patients. The faster and wider this information can be disseminated the more lives it can positively impact.
