In their BIOHACK-HERS series, she and her HigherDOSE co-founder Katie Kaps brave the wellness-tech elements—from submerging themselves in a frigid cold plunge pool to microdosing ketamine—and share with their followers.

"To help others achieve their best selves through food, self-nurturing, discipline, and wellness tech," Berlingeri says. "There's nothing more gratifying."

Their exploration into biohacking—which, Berlingeri explains, is essentially wellness tech with scientifically-proven efficacy—is not surprising. Cutting-edge wellness technology is Berlingeri’s world — she and Kaps founded infrared sauna mecca HigherDOSE in 2016. It immediately took over Instagram, with models and influencers 'gramming themselves sweating it out under the sauna's red-purple LED glow. Since then, the brand has developed a whole line of at-home wellness tech, gleaning from all the cofounders biohacking adventures.

Q&A

What drew you to wellness? I was a model for over ten years and throughout my experience I wasn’t kind to my body—I smoked cigarettes, did fad diets...

As I got older and started to learn more about wellness, I began to incorporate new modalities into my routine and, for the first time in my life, I felt good almost all of the time. That's when it became a true passion—to help others achieve their best selves through food, self-nurturing, discipline, and wellness tech. There is nothing more gratifying.

You founded HigherDOSE in 2016. Why is infrared the wellness practice you wanted to share with the world? I discovered infrared while working for a health and wellness start-up. My job was to interview the most influential health experts—from doctors to naturopaths to holistic practitioners—about the best technologies, the best ingredients and the best practices. That's when the infrared sauna came up.

I wanted to try it but back then, it was hard to find. I went to the only infrared sauna that existed 8 years ago in the basement of a colonic center, and I couldn't believe the amazing benefits. My skin was glowing. I felt calm and connected. I slept like a baby for the first time in years. I just couldn't believe everyone didn't know about this.

What is biohacking? How does it differ from the broader concept of wellness? Biohacking is like do-it-yourself biology. It’s aimed at improving one’s overall wellbeing through strategic interventions and niche modalities with scientifically-proven efficacy.
It differs from wellness because within the broader concept of wellness, there are a lot of fads—trendy supplements, diets, and workouts-- that sometimes don’t have proven benefits or results.

What are 5 biohacks you do every day? 1. Hot and cold therapy—going between an infrared sauna and a cold plunge or cold shower.
2. Grounding—walking outside barefoot after a stressful or screen-heavy day.
3. Daily movement—I do some form of exercise every day, supplemented by heavy lifting three times a week for improving bone density.
4. Eating for my genetic makeup—I believe in intentional, whole food nutrition.
5. 8-plus hours of deep restful sleep every night.
