The rise measures the distance from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband, determining where the jean sits on your torso.

What jean length works best for me? 

The ideal jean length depends on both your height and how you want the style to fall on your leg. Inseam length is measured from the crotch seam to the hem.

VB inseam sizing is based on a 5'8" - 5'10" height, or a 30" - 32" inseam.

"Kick Flare Jean, size 18W. I'm 5'6", and they go past the ankle. I will have to have them hemmed, as you see in the picture. The inseam is 28". Thank you, Veronica Beard, for making an extended size, Jean. They fit perfectly!!! I hope they will create more extended sizes in other styles. I love them!
