VB Spring 2020
Trend ReportFor Spring 2020, we played demure against sexy—it's about acknowledging women have myriad moods. So we paired polished, pulled-together jackets with cropped petal pushers and hotpants, and cut a trench in sheer plaid organza. Bustier and strapless tops came with a flirty bow or flounce and a long-sleeved tunic dress, a classic, with an alluring, contoured cut-out in the front.

There are many different ways to slice the Sixties—Mod; boho—but we decided to tap into the glamour and femininity of the latter half of the decade, and only in the most subtle of ways: a gentle peplum silhouette here, a puffed-sleeve shift there… It's a mood that continues right down to the accessories, which includes shoes with PVC toppers and Lucite heels.

We put the focus on cinched waists of all sorts, from belted details to Bar-style jackets with softly curved peplums, to one of the hero silhouettes of the season: paper-bag pants with a sashed bow up top.

We pushed our tailoring to new heights this season—peplum jacket, anyone?—but nowhere was this more apparent than in the season's new—pardon the pun—crop of pant styles, which included flowy, wide-leg culottes, trim petal pushers and peg-leg jeans.

This season, we found inspiration in vintage wallpapers and interiors for our signature plaids and florals, all cast in beautiful sun-faded colors. And speaking of…

Make that both sunset—and sunrise. For our spring palette, we channeled those hazy dusk and dawn moments when soft yellows, lilacs, tangerines and deep purples take over the horizon. Of course, if there's one hue that takes the lead, it's pink—we cut that rosy hue in everything from polka-dot waffle knits to a gorgeous moiré jacket.

In keeping with spring's buoyant vibe, we added shots of sparkle and iridescence throughout. And it's not just for night—check out our allover sequin cropped trench or, if you're into more subtle shine, the looks in that radiant, textured silk moiré.
