City Guide

Louise Roe's Guide to London

DEBUG: core/paragraph

When in London, do as the Londoners do…

We're heading across the pond to kick off summer with our U.K. friends (for a behind-the-scenes look at our trip, follow along @veronicabeard!). While in town, we're taking in all that London has to offer. We've enlisted Louie Roe to play tour guide, sharing all her favorite spots around the city, from iconic haunts to local hidden gems. Here's her well-vetted list—everything you need to do and see in London.

A townhouse in Covent Garden and my favorite spot for a pre-theatre cocktail (try the Absinthe Frapé, it’s lethal!). The decor transports me to downtown New York, the chef is from New Orleans, and there is live jazz every week.

La Poule au Pot

An authentic, rustic and cosy French experience. Tucked into elegant Ebury Street for the last 50 years, La Poule au Pot had Princess Margaret as one of its regulars. I highly recommend the clams followed by tarte tatin!

Beaverbrook Townhouse

A gorgeous boutique hotel in the heart of Chelsea, decorated by one of my favorite interior designers, Nicola Harding. The rooms are elegant and all unique. The bar is a low-lit, cool spot for a martini.

Sir John Soane’s Museum

DEBUG: core/paragraph

Tour the renowned architect’s former home: not only do you get to see the hidden Old Masters paintings in his secret gallery, but you also access the bedrooms upstairs (not otherwise open to the public). When Soane died in 1837, his will articulated every item remain in its exact place. You feel like you’re walking back in time—truly exquisite!

John Sandoe Books

If you’re a bookworm like me, this is heaven! A charming shop in an old house with creaky floorboards and a spiral staircase lined with books on travel, art and, of course, classic novels. I could spend hours getting lost in here…
