Artist Alexandra NechitaFor some, talent comes from experience. Others are born with it. Get to know our latest mover and shaker, artist Alexandra Nechita. By the time she was 11, Nechita had already sold over 1.5 million in sales with her Cubist-style paintings. And that was just the beginning. The Romanian-American painter went on to appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show and, in 1997, designed the 39th Annual Grammy Awards program, too—both also, by the way, at an age before most of us have even entered high school. Today, Nechita continues to paint, with celebrity collectors including Ellen Degeneres and Alec Baldwin. But Nechita knows when it's time to put down the paintbrush, too. "With time, I have unsubscribed to the incessant chase and 'need' to hustle to be successful," she says. "I have learned that sometimes the chase can be more exhausting than the reward is worth."
Here, we sit with the artist and learn more about what got her started, her favorite moments outside of the studio, and what always shifts her energy for the better.
My Hustle
I will never stop working hard, and believe that discipline is really one of the greatest tools in achieving your success; however, with time, I have unsubscribed to the incessant chase and “need” to hustle to be successful. I have learned that sometimes the chase can be more exhausting than the reward is worth.
I’ve loved making things since I was a child. Color has always been a driving force in my work. It all started with coloring books and crayons. Started off as a typical child hobby and has manifested into my absolute obsession. Telling stories and impacting change through my work are two of the reasons I do what I do.
What clears my head...
Being outdoors in any capacity always makes me feel better.
When in doubt, I...
Look myself dead in the eye and remind myself what a badass I really am!
Negative thoughts. I haven’t perfected this. Every day is a test and opportunity to do better and rearrange my thoughts and energy.
how i make it happen
1. Must have my coffee.
2. Must kiss my kids.
3. Must say THANK YOU. (A new wish I have for myself to wake up grateful. Grateful for my life. My body. My home. My family. My work.)
1. I am an ultra-sensitive person so finding ways to navigate that part of myself has been important in my growth, so I try hard not to take things personally!
2. Forgiveness!!! Hardest thing to do, but there is no better way to live than with a clear heart.
3. Belting out my daughter's favorite songs with her and ending in a full dance party always shifts my energy.
1. Being patient with myself and the timing of things is the best way I can manage my type-A personality—especially when I am at the mercy of deadlines or other people's agendas.
2. Keeping my cool and breathing through the chaos and knowing it will pass.
3. Remembering that not all ideas are good ideas, and that’s OK.
Personal talisman...
Nameplate necklace with my daughter’s name on it, Tevva. I never take it off.
If you don’t ask, you’ll never know!
My Style
When in doubt, blue denim and a crisp white button down.
Wardrobe MVP...
A mean pant suit
DRESS FOR YOURSELF.
Chic, smart and confident!
My Recharge
Reading Animal, watching Maid, listening to the Something Was Wrong podcast and currently on a BeeGees disco moment with my 6-year-old daughter
Facials with Skin By Charlotte, Biologique p50 toner, EltaMD sunscreen, Anastasia EYEBROWS (gel/ brow pencil) and Westman Atelier cream bronzer and blush
Besides painting and being in the studio… Spending time with my kids and family. Without a doubt laughing and being silly with my husband at dinners/date nights.
Favorite thing to make...
Crepes
One mover and shaker I admire…
Can I pick two? Brooke Pace, President of AltaModa Communications and Global Head of Communications at MOSCHINO, and Anastasia Soare, CEO of Anastasia Beverly Hills, are women I admire in more ways than one!
