The marriage between Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr. has been documented countless times in the Fourth Estate—the highs, the lows and the very tumultuous lows. Twenty years after their tragic death, the pair continues to fascinate and land on best-dressed lists, again and again. Go ahead—try to find a bad photo of them. While their wedding day is exemplar of their incredible style—who could forget the bride in that simple yet stunning slip by Narcisco Rodriguez?—the two make our list because they radiated grace and effortless chic even in their most casual baseball-cap-wearing, day-to-day lives. Before Brad and Angelina, there was Richard and Liz. The two Hollywood A-listers, both in their career primes, met on the set of the 1963 film
Cleopatra. She played the kohl-eyed queen; he, Mark Anthony. Their own courtship was as dramatic (melodramatic?) as that of their fictional counterparts. Both were in relationships at the time: Taylor was married to Eddie Fisher, who had actually left his first wife, actress Debbie Reynolds, to be with her while Burton was in the process of adopting a daughter with his own wife. Scandal would follow the two fiery lovebirds throughout their affair: They got married and divorced—twice.

What happens when you bring together a supermodel and a musical superstar? You get super couple Iman and David Bowie, whose marriage lasted over two decades before Bowie's death in 2016. And if you ever wonder if their relationship was as sublime as their impeccable style, it was. "My marriage is exactly as fabulous as you all would think," said Iman, who, to this day, is never without a necklace that spells "David." Fun fact: The two met on a blind date.

Bianca de Macias may not have been "the one" for Mick Jagger, whose list of paramours runs deep, but she was the first Ms. Jagger. And, in our Hall of Fame, the two are the most iconic of his-and-her Jaggers. They defined Seventies glamour—snapshots of the couple living the high and heady life at Studio 54 are among the most indelible of the era today. Plus, we have to give a shout-out to any bride who rocks a tailored blazer—paired with a demonstrative wide-brimmed topper, to boot—on her wedding day.

By Hollywood standards, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell's relationship is practically Jurassic. The actors—who first met in the late Sixties filming, The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, and got together in the Eighties on the Swing Shift set—are proof that you don't need a license for a marriage to have legs. "We have done just perfectly without marrying," said Hawn. "I already feel devoted and isn't that what marriage is supposed to do? So as long as my emotional state is in a state of devotion, honesty, caring, and loving, then we're fine."
