Veronica Miele Beard: Our first feature in Vogue and getting the cover of Avenue magazine!
Veronica Swanson Beard: When we opened our first VB store on Madison Avenue—it was a dream come true!
Most challenging moment…
VSB: Learning to balance being a wife, mom and co-CEO.
VMB: When we had to present to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund judges. It was one of the most daunting and challenging experiences for me. Here I was, a hedge fund sales trader, convincing Anna Wintour why every woman needs a dickey jacket and how it will change her life!
VMB: The photo shoots with my kids—truly incorporating real life into the brand. Seeing their pride in the VB brand is incredibly poignant.
VSB: Reopening our offices after quarantine.
Most important mentors…
VSB: Andrew Rosen—we see things very similarly and he’s always a touchstone for me when making a hard decision.
VMB: Philippe Laffont of Coatue empowered me, taught me about organic growth, the pillars of branding and the art of debate, how to look at the big picture and to think differently.
Most inspiring moment…
VMB: How our team dealt during the pandemic. I so admire and respect all of them—they worked so hard and didn’t give up on the pivot!
VSB: Every day—I live inspired by the energy of our business and our team.
Most motivating moment…
VSB: When my kids say they are proud of me.
VMB: Visiting Inglewood High School with the Just Keep Livin Foundation, the nonprofit founded by Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves, and listening to a student talk about overcoming major challenges in her life and how hard she worked—she got admitted into Harvard! Anything is possible!
Most unforgettable moment with our customers…
VMB: Our Madison Avenue opening—a dream come true. We turned the basement into the basement apartment of a '70s party girl, with shag rugs and stilettos in the freezer!
VSB: Every new store opening—the excitement, the feedback, the new trends—I can’t wait to be able to do that again.
Most memorable moment…
VMB: Taking VB abroad to Europe. I’ve treasured my travels with Veronica, the takeoffs and landings of new ideas in new places. Reading about VB in German magazines and realizing women are pretty much the same wherever we go! We want it all and we can’t give up!
VSB: The end of our first market when we had eight orders and a new chapter of life was about to start.
Words of wisdom…
VSB: Manifest your dreams and surround yourself with people who are positive and grateful. Work hard. Family first.
VMB: Don’t build a stadium before the fans!
