City Guide: Marlien Rentmeester on LA

February 27, 2018

To celebrate our first LA store, we asked LE CATCH founder Marlien Rentmeester to share some of her must-visit places. Living in Los Angeles for the last 17 years, Marlien's list includes all of the city's coolest spots. Check out her guide and packing list below!

Describe Los Angeles in three words:

Easier to live in than NYC. (Six words, sorry!)

Your favorite neighborhood:

I live in Pacific Palisades, which feels similar to the Hamptons, where I spent every summer since I was six years old. It's minutes from the beach, has a small-town, kick-back-and-relax vibe and yet it feels cosmopolitan, too.

Hotel you recommend:

Chateau Marmont (8221 Sunset Blvd) is quintessentially LA–always chic and scene-y. I also love The Beverly Hills Hotel (9641 Sunset Blvd)l. I like the kitschy wallpaper and cozy diner downstairs. The McCarthy Salad is my fave at the Polo Lounge. If you want to be on the beach, I also like the Malibu Beach Inn (22878 Pacific Coast Highway). It's small and intimate, close to Little Beach House (22716 Pacific Coast Highway) and Nobu (22706 Pacific Coast Highway). You can fall asleep to the waves crashing below your balcony. Shutters in Santa Monica (1 Pico Blvd) has the best beds, FYI.

Three must-visit restaurants and what to order:

Nobu in Malibu (22706 Pacific Coast Highway). Order the artichoke truffle salad.
Gjusta in Venice (320 Sunset Ave). This place has crazy good smoked salmon and bread.
Gjelina in Venice (1429 Abbot Kinney Blvd). Get the trout salad and mushroom pizza.

Best place to grab a cocktail?

Little Beach House in Malibu (22716 Pacific Coast Highway). Best. Location.Ever.

Your green juice go-to?

Kreation in Brentwood (151 S Barrington Place). Pick one up post-Body By Simone class (137 S Barrington Place).

Favorite places to shop:

Barneys New York (189 The Grove Drive), Shareen Vintage (1721 N Spring Street) and Lawson Fenning (1618 Silver Lake Blvd).

Where do you go to get pampered?

Rosie's Nails in Pacific Palisades (15333 Sunset Blvd. The ambiance isn't great, but it's convenient, inexpensive and completely doable on a weekly basis. I typically get a pedicure and shoulder massage… at the same time! Yessss!

Tourist spot you still love to visit:

Paradise Cove in Malibu. (I walk north up to the point and plant myself there, where the cute surfers are, like Chris Martin!)

Best time of year to visit LA:

September and October, which I call endless summer season.
