A Day in the Life
What's your morning ritual?
I start my mornings by writing down a few things I’m grateful for and getting in a quick meditation. This helps me get grounded and start the day with a positive attitude. Then I try to get a sweat session in before jumping into my day. After I’ve taken time for my mind and body, it’s time for coffee, breakfast, skincare, and mom duties.
Workout routine?
I used to head to the gym bright and early for an hour or an hour and a half of training with Mr. Daryl Gregory. Now I’ve been switching it up more between Zoom sessions with him, rides on the Peloton, some weight training moves that I do on my own, and occasionally some yoga. I like to mix it up. The important thing is just to move every day. It helps me sleep better and keep stress at bay.
What's in your bag?
My phone, sunscreen, a notebook, and some makeup essentials. I love the Chanel tinted moisturizer, Hourglass mascara, and some classic Shea moisture lip balm. Rio occasionally stashes a Hot Wheel or action figure in there as well.
“If you’re going to rock a power suit, don’t shy away from color. This pink version is both feminine and fierce when paired with a delicate pinstripe blouse and white mules. You can also wear each piece alone. Style the pants with a graphic tee or throw on the jacket with a pair of jeans.”
“The perfect look for city life is denim—I live in it. My tip: You can instantly elevate your jeans by throwing on a structured blazer like this plaid version and some no-nonsense heels.”
I wish I knew. Some days I’m working with my photographer to shoot content for campaigns. Other days I brainstorm ideas for the blog and work on writing posts. Recently I’ve been obsessed with watching and creating fun TikTok videos. And other days I’m answering emails from dawn until dusk. My workweeks are a grab bag of different projects and creative whims.
I make myself an adaptogenic drink. I love a matcha, blue spirulina latte or a superfood smoothie with Ashwagandha.
I’ve gotten the entire family hooked on stovetop popcorn and I’m not sorry about it. I add olive oil and either blue spirulina or nutritional yeast which makes it cheesy. So I mean, it’s healthy popcorn, right?
My nighttime beauty routine is constantly changing. After cleansing my face, I’ll apply an essence. I love the one by SK-II. Then I’ll apply a night serum like Sunday Riley Luna Serum Night Oil which works wonders in my opinion, and finish with a night cream. Occasionally, I do a sheet mask to wind down or use a facial roller.
“Don’t be afraid to mix textures and play with contrast. I like to combine sophisticated items like this leather midi skirt with sporty pieces like this sweater with baseball tee vibes. I went for stilettos in this case, but you can also opt for sneakers to give otherwise classy outfits a street-style feel.”
Hubby and I take turns putting the kids to bed, which means pjs, story time and usually a big protest on the part of Rio Dash. Afterward I’ll finish up with emails or work projects that didn’t get done during the day or catch up on Netflix. On the weekends, there’s usually a glass or two of red wine in the mix.
You never get it all done! I’ve learned to live with that. The best way to stay sane and maintain some semblance of balance is to prioritize ruthlessly and just do your best.
I feel really lucky to be living the life I’m living. I love being able to work for myself, hang out with my kids, and live in this amazing city. Problems are forever and I get overwhelmed every now and then, but I try to have as much fun as possible along the way. I wake up feeling grateful for how far I’ve come and excited for the road ahead.
