City Guide: Merritt Beck on Dallas

May 9, 2017

Ahead of our visit to Dallas next week, we asked blogger Merritt Beck, founder and editor of The Style Scribe, to share her favorite spots to eat, drink and play in the city. Check out her guide below!

Describe Dallas in Three Words:

Stylish, Busy, Friendly

Favorite Neighborhood:

Knox-Henderson is so much fun! There are so many amazing restaurants and shops along Knox, McKinney and Henderson streets. Such a cute area!

Hotel You Recommend:

The Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek (2821 Turtle Creek Blvd) is an old Dallas favorite! The location can't be beat, and there's also a very popular bar featuring live music a few nights a week. It's always packed!

3 Must-Visit Restaurants:

Dolce Rivieria (2950 Hardwood Street) is a new-ish spot my friends and I have been frequenting lately! Definitely be sure to order the Papardelle a Cacao, which features cocoa-infused pasta in a truffle cream sauce. It's not sweet, the pasta is just dark! SO GOOD!

Javier's (4912 Cole Ave) is a household name in Dallas for gourmet Mexican food. The ambiance is excellent and so is the food! I always order the Filete Cantinflas for my entree. There's also a cigar bar in another part of the restaurant you can grab a drink in before or after dinner. So fun!

Shinsei (7713 Inwood Road) is my favorite spot to grab sushi and other Pan-Asian dishes! Try the Tempura Spicy Tuna Roll, the Thai Fried Rice, Katina's Crispy Rice and the Pork Steam Buns. They also do a great Korean Barbecue a couple nights a week!

Best Place to Grab a Cocktail:

I always love visiting Lounge 31 in Highland Park Village (87 Highland Park Village)! They have a retractable roof for nice weather and also make some of the best sushi in Dallas if you're hoping to grab some light bites with your drinks.

Morning Coffee Go-To:

I usually make coffee at home in my Keurig, but when I'm out and about I love Ascension Coffee (1621 Oak Lawn Ave A)! They do a mean almond milk latte.

Favorite Places to Shop:

Forty Five Ten's new downtown location (1615 Main Street) is fantastic! The whole store is stunning and so well thought out. Highland Park Village is another must-visit. They feature home/entertaining stores like Ellis Hill and Madison, along with luxury brands like Chanel and Saint Laurent. For home pieces, I love to visit Mecox (4532 Cole Ave), so many cute things!

Spot to Get Pampered:

I am addicted to getting facials at Joanna Czech (2410 Victory Park Lane). I always leave feeling like an entirely new woman!

Tourist Spots You Still Love to Visit:

The Bishop Arts District is a fun area to explore! Lots of cute shops and restaurants. The Dallas Arboretum (8525 Garland Road) is a scenic spot to visit and features a variety of events throughout the year (like the Pumpkin Village in October!). The Nasher Sculpture Center (2001 Floral St) is also worth a visit!
