Meet Annie and Ferebee Taube as they share their favorite things to see, do and eat in Millbrook, New York
After driving upstate from NYC, we always hit up Big Rock farm stand, where you can get local produce, bread, meat, and baked goods from many local farms.It’s a little shed on the side of the road that could easily be missed, but everyone in our area knows about it.
If we aren’t feeling the urge to cook dinner at home, our favorite spots are Mercato in Red Hook for the most amazing kale salad and homemade pasta (and Ferebee can’t leave without a scoop of the Salted Caramel Gelato) and Market Street in Rhinebeck for delicious flat bread pizzas, salads, and Italian food.Both spots are very low key…there is never a need to put on heels in this area!
On a nice Saturday morning, after grabbing coffee and pastries from the Red Devon in Bangall, we like to drive to Stissing Mountain to hike to the Fire Tower.It’s the most incredible view of the Hudson Valley, and makes us feel like we are very very far away from New York City.
Between the two of us, we have 6 children, so it’s important to have fun activities for them.This time of year, we often take our kids apple picking at Fraleigh’s Rose Hill Farm, where the kids pull their own wagons and load them up with apples, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries.They normally end up eating more than we take home, but that’s part of the fun!
Our favorite Fall activity is to take the kids to Haan Farm, where you can go pumpkin picking, ride on a pony or a hay wagon, run through a pitch black corn maze (which freaks both of us out, but doesn’t seem to phase the children), feed animals, and munch on the most delicious apple cinnamon donuts and hot apple cider.
While our husbands take the kids fly fishing at Orvis, we will sneak away for a relaxing massage at Haven Spa in Rhinebeck, or pop into Millbrook to our friend Alicia Adam’s new store, Alicia Adams Alpaca, where she sells her luxurious alpaca blankets and accessories alongside John Robshaw textiles.
